Support for ongoing projects has continued unabated in 2017 and now into 2018, further establishing the influence that Trade Aid UK has been able to give to important relief programmes worldwide. Much of this has been enabled by the continued sale of Trade Aid UK Granulated and Caster Sugar through Tesco Stores and online at Ocado together with the sale of ethical travel insurance through its partner www.travelandinsure.com. The use of external aid agencies and charities has been instrumental in us being able to reach the remotest parts of the globe where often the needs are greatest. The individual aid projects supported by the Trade Aid UK Foundation can be viewed by simply scrolling up and down the project panel on this page and clicking on the project that interests you.

Humanitarian Assistance

In 2017, Trade Aid UK is helping to fund the Charity, Medair, in their efforts to alleviate the plight of Iraqi refugees from the conflict in Mosul, Northern Iraq. Due to leverage from other funding sources, Medair managed to increase Trade Aid UK's donation 5-fold enabling a significant uplift in the support available.

As a result of fighting by armed opposition groups in Iraq, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety. They are in great need of humanitarian assistance. The United Nations estimates that there are more than two million displaced people in northern and central Iraq.

Medair provides support to four primary health clinics serving areas of return and delivers esssential health services to approximately 18.000 people in Sharya camp in Duhok governorate and Ninewa province. Clinical teams treat acute and chronic diseases as well as provide antenatal care for expectant mothers.  Children under 5 comprise 21% of clinic's total consultations. Medair opearates Mobile Medical Units which ensure displaced people don't need to travel far distances to receive treatment.

Medair brings emergency relief and rehabilitation to over two million people a year in some of the most vulnerable countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, all countries that are severely affected by conflicts, natural disasters, or other crises. Medair responds to natural disasters, conflicts that uproot communities and crises, such as drought or disease. You can find out more about Medair and the work they are doing by logging onto their website at www.medair.org.
